The Drone Divas programme, targeted toward youth from Soshanguve, Pretoria.
The participants, whose backgrounds were not entirely in technology, were considered on the basis of creating inclusive opportunity and equal knowledge within STEAM careers. As such, all 21 participants were women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Drone Divas programme included:

  • An introduction to drone technology.
  • Here the participants used 3D modelling to create drone designs, further learned how to build a drone, and operate a drone.
  • Participants finally were required to apply their knowledge on a project.

The four week programme captivated the participants as they were led through various aspects about drones, including drone law and data capturing.
A programme of this kind expands and encourages youth upskilling. We look forward to the call for applications to the programme so that we can continue our work in creating leaders in 4iR.

What a Drone Diva had to say …

“I wanted to be part of Drone Divas because of the opportunity that it brings to women. Mostly because it's not something that is widely available to anybody really... I just felt like I needed to be here.”
